Education is one of our greatest weapons in the fight against poverty. Our various education-centred programs help in encouraging children to embrace education.
In addition to scholarships, AOF is committed to ensuring children have access to quality education by providing necessary infrastructure such as new classrooms, tables and chairs, writing materials and other necessities required by these eager students.
ADOPT A SCHOOL PROGRAM
AOF works with communities and the government to address the issue of poor basic education. The foundation’s Adopt a School program have proven successful in achieving positive results.
What does this entail?
- Identify a public school that needs intervention.
- Identify the schools’ needs including new classrooms, renovation of dilapidated ones, building and equipping libraries, tables, chairs, books and other necessities.
- Identify educationally deprived children within the host community and sponsor them to the school to ensure they acquire basic education.
ADOPT A CHILD PRROGRAM
Every child has a basic right to education. Our adopt a child program while not specifically gender based, favours the girl child because in most rural communities, girls are denied their right to education.
The greatest weapon we have in the fight against poverty and gender based violence in particular is providing education for the girl child. Empowering the girl child helps in resolving socio-economic issues such as early marriage and teenage pregnancy which robs them of their right to choose and build their own future.
AOF also provides full sponsorships to children in orphanages in rural communities. We believe that being an orphan shouldn’t deprive a child of the right to education.
To date, AOF has awarded over 100 need-based scholarships to deserving children from various rural communities across Nigeria.
